Before you begin

Prepare your device for a forensic analysis

Inviolable does not install permanent software on your device. We ship a per-analysis signed script that uses well-known system tools to create an isolated backup, analyzes it against current indicators, and cleans up after itself. These are the prerequisites — please confirm them before you purchase a plan.

iPhone / iPad

Encrypted iTunes backup over USB — your gold standard for forensic evidence.

What you need

  • A Mac or Windows computer with a free USB port.
  • Latest version of iTunes (Windows) or Finder (macOS Catalina+).
  • The Lightning or USB-C cable that came with your device.
  • At least 2× the free disk space vs. your iPhone's used storage.
  • Your device passcode available (we never ask you for it).

Step by step

  1. 1

    Update iOS to the latest public release

    Settings → General → Software Update. Running the most recent OS avoids false positives caused by outdated signatures.

    Plug the phone into your computer with cable

    Wi-Fi backups are not acceptable: evidence must travel over a wired path.

  3. 3

    Trust this computer

    When prompted on the iPhone, tap "Trust" and enter your passcode. This trust relationship is what allows an encrypted backup to be produced.

    Run the Inviolable script

    When our script asks, choose 'Encrypted backup' and set a temporary password you will remember for the duration of the analysis.

  5. 5

    Leave the device connected and undisturbed

    A full first backup can take 30–60 minutes. Our script monitors progress for you.

Things to keep in mind

  • • Do not use Wi-Fi-only backups or iCloud snapshots — they omit the artifacts required for forensic analysis.
  • • Jailbroken devices produce unreliable results; we flag them and may decline analysis.

No installation required

The script is signed per analysis and removes itself when the collection is complete. The only thing that remains is your isolated evidence copy.

Privacy by design

We never store your device passcode, your messages, or the backup. The artifact stays on your machine; only the indicator match results and the signed certificate are retained.
